‘Ere we go. ‘ere we go, etc. The date for ‘First Flame’ to see the light of published day is now settled for September 20th, and the details of it and me are available to be checked out on: www.sentinelpoetry.org.uk/publications/first-flame
The 25 stories have all won prizes, commendations or listings in well-established U.K. fiction competitions, and if I say so myself and shouldn’t, I don’t think there are many people, old, young or middle, male or female, who won’t find something in ‘First Flame’ which rings a bell with them. I try to tread the fine line between writing which bears some relation to ‘real life’ as different people experience it and writing which effs and blinds every other word and has various unfortunates being sliced up or otherwise unpleasantly disposed of in every other paragraph. Vanilla with a touch of lemon here, orange there, mint occasionally. If I do funny, it usually comes with a point to it, and I just live in hope that, for those pieces, people will get both the funny and the point.
It’s true writing is often not easy and is sometimes deeply frustrating, but I get a lot of satisfaction out of it, especially when a competition result means a few other people have too. Over to you, gentle reader and gentle (!?!) critic. Be gentle with me.
