O.K., it’s now ten days and counting until the publication of First Flame, and if any of my new Facebook friends (and thanks for visiting my page there) would like to take a look at the book details on the publisher’s page, they’re at www.sentinelpoetry.org.uk/publications/first-flame
But it still seems like a good idea to provide one or two samples of the kind of stuff I do if it’s seriously to be expected that someone might decide to buy a whole book of it! Two pieces which can be checked out on the net straight away might just provide a decent few minutes’ read. The first one is kind of taking the mickey out of management speak, and doesn’t it ever deserve to have the mickey taken out of it? Published on the e-zine Fiction on the Web, which caters for several genres at once, it describes, humorously I hope, the struggle a boss has in getting rid of a Head of Security who’s become a bit of a thorn in his side. See now at www.fictionontheweb.co.uk/2013/01/downsizing-graham-by-bruce-harris.html
And something else which might just keep your with it for the length of the tale is ‘The Scheme of Things’, a day in the life of a primary school teacher with gender battling pupils and opinionated colleagues. This time it’s in the e-zine ‘Running Out Of Ink’, a relatively recent recruit to the fiction scene which is nevertheless nicely presented and put together. www.runningoutofink.com/the_scheme_of_things.html
Neither of these pieces is actually in First Flame, so there’s no ‘doubling up’. Hope you’ll pay a visit and like what you see.
